Beacon environment quality overlay depicts how good the beacon radio environment is for positioning. Note that MapCreator automatically records ambient beacons installed by a third party.

If you are installing beacons yourself, use this analytics to identify places where you should add beacons – the red and yellow areas.

You can check beacon environment quality in both MapCreator (realtime during fingerprinting) and Web App (for each map revision, and for currently selected paths including paths not in any map revision yet i.e. "draft map").

Interpreting colors:

• Green areas mean that a good first fix can be determined. 
• Yellow areas in this image indicate that an approximate first fix can be determined in those areas.
• Red indicates no beacon coverage and green indicates good coverage.

Fixing Beacon Environment Quality

• Add new beacons to yellow and red areas
• After adding new beacons, map coarsely the neighborhood of the new beacons up to 30m to the them recorded. See Adding more beacons after mapping.
• Re-check analytics.
• Make sure you are using a qualified mapping device
• If analytics shows red although you have installed beacons, make sure that your device is scanning beacons. Note that the device may stop scanning beacons, for example due to low battery level. Also, make sure you have configured the beacons with high enough transmitting power setting.
• If you installing beacons yourself, consider whitelisting your beacons. This can be useful if the beacon analytics show green but you cannot get decent first fix, which may be due to moving or otherwise bad quality beacons.
  • Note: If you use the beacon whitelist, and use different UUIDs in different locations, be sure to whitelist all the UUIDs.
